Season of the Cowl
As winter approaches, many knitters look for knitted accessories to layer and add to their wardrobes to ward off the wind and chill. Some of us also start to panic about gift knitting for loved ones. The Interstellar Cowl takes care of both, really. A simple knit using an easy-to-remember colorwork pattern used in my Interstellar Shorties. Worked from the bottom up, the Interstellar Cowl uses a tubular cast-on, a small length of ribbing, and the Italian Bind-Off, which gives a beautiful, rounded edge. The rest is knit in the round, alternating colors, giving the knitter lots of colorwork practice without fussing over floats or carrying the yarn. For a vibrantly colorful cowl, use highly contrasting yarn colorways. For a more subtle cowl, choose colorways with less contrast. You will see some of the different colorways chosen by my test knitters (and myself) in Ravelry. Just click on projects to see those examples and some inspiration. Interstellar Cowl is available in a collection of all three patterns in three yarn weights (which is 3 patterns for the price of 2), or separately in dk, fingering/sport, and worsted weight patterns, just in case you really only knit in one yarn weight.
